NYC phase 3

May 12, 2018
Saturday

Today we took it easy and let Easton hang out in the hotel room this morning after another delicious breakfast. After he played his heart out and gave the best cuddles, he went down for a two hour nap. He must’ve been tired because he was wallowing all over the bathroom floor and the bed, which he never does. Haha. But his nap was nice and long,  long enough for Jeff and I to both shower and get ready for the day.

Once Easton got up around noon we hit the road for Times Square. We decided to take the Metro today since it was raining and we had to do it at least once. Jeff decided he was not a fan. He thinks he’ll stick to the high life on the boats and above ground ha ha ha! Too stinky and crammed for him. We took the Path across the road to Ground Zero then took the subway from there. It took about 7 quick stops to 42nd street and we headed straight for pizza.

When I went to Israel with my mom and Dad we had a 12 hour layover in New York so living our best life; we went to Times Square for a few hours and got dinner while others went to the broadway show Newsies or stayed in the airport.  We came across this place called John’s Pizzeria on 44th street across from the Majestic theatre that plays Phantom of the Opera. It looks like a hole in the wall but it actually goes back and opens up to a beautiful theatre style room, with a dome in the center with beautiful stained glass.

But let’s talk about the Pizza…. this was the best I had ever had when we were there and I’ve dreamed about it since then.  And luckily for us, it was no different this time. It was so good! The crust, the cheese, the basil, the pepperoni…… I’m telling you. It is just so flipping good! I was a giddy school girl the whole time. This stop made the whole trip worth it. It was nostalgia and now new memories and it made some full tummies. Even Easton loved it! He wasn’t a fan of the basil though. Haha!

After we devoured our brick oven baked pizza, we headed to Times Square to see the signs and luckily on the way, there’s was Juniors Cheesecake! We stopped there on our Israel tour as well, and it was just as good this time. My dad’s or Jen’s are still my favorite though. After we grabbed our cheesecakes to go. We found a spot to sit in the square and ate our cheesecakes and enjoyed the surroundings. Jeff wanted to walk to Broadway street (which Siri gave us a runaround….) so we went around the block to end up back on the same street we started just a few blocks down lol.
It was kind of lucky because there was some street vendor fair going on and the roads were shut down so we could just walk right up the middle of the road without getting stuck in the sidewalk congestion or the car traffic. So we enjoyed the view of the iconic Times Square at a much slower and less pressured pace. We stopped in the MM store, and the Fossil Store.
We kept on going to find Madison Square garden before we headed back to downtown. We had to take the subway back and I’ll be honest, it was a bit more crammed this time, and I almost went down! I had Easton and all of his weight on one side. I didn’t have a grip on anything because I wasn’t expecting the train to move and a hero with the help of Jeff totally saved me and the baby from crushing this little lady and hitting the floor! Jeff said the guy was laughing pretty hard at me…. *facepalm*.  After that embarrassment, Jeff had a full on jacket grip on the back of me the rest of the train till we had to switch trains haha.

We finally made it back to the World Trade Center and Jeff said he’s never been so happy to breath fresh air ha ha ha! That is saying something since we’re still in the middle of the city. But we’re just not in midtown. We’ve decided we’re the downtown, Jersey city, type folk. midtown and subways isn’t our flair. I don’t particularly mind the subway, but it is a lot bigger of a hassle with all of us and a stroller. Jeff begged to take the ferry home instead of the Path Metro so he wouldn’t have to get crammed back into a train car and smell the urine or feces. (Which, to the path’s credit, it is a much nicer and cleaner route).
After a quick stop at Whole Market for some milk and something for Easton for dinner, we made our way to the Ferry. We were so happy to be back on our side of the river. Even if it was raining and in the 50’s.
Easton loved getting to walk home from the dock and jumping in every puddle on the way. Then sitting in the puddles and getting disgusting.

We took our last moments overlooking the Hudson and enjoying the skyline while Easton jumped in puddles and ran as far as he could.
