Thursday
Philly to NYC
Today we headed out from Philadelphia for NYC but stopped in Valley Forge for a few hours. It was kind of a dreary day, and pretty chilly. Of course, the one day I wore shorts it rained.
The park is essentially open for anyone to bike, walk, or drive. It is absolutely beautiful. We stopped in the visitors center to get a little direction on the way to go and the cutest old man chatted with Easton and I while Jeff looked at all the exhibits.
Once we started driving, we made a couple stops to read signs and walk as long as we could with the rain starting. We took turns after Easton fell asleep to see Washington’s headquarters. Those were really cool. Jeff was telling me how it’s rumored that Angel Moroni visited Washington in that Home. It added an extra coolness to the place.
On our way out of the cutest town we stopped at shake shack to cash in our coupons for bomb burgers on the go and then made our way to Delaware river for where Washington Crossed the Delaware Christmas Eve.
At this point the rain has stopped so it was beautiful to just walk around and enjoy the area and river. It was quite fun to actually see the Police Unity bike race thing that goes from NYC to DC go through the tiny town on the river. We were watching it on the news before we left our hotel. What were the odds! There was a bridge we had to go across to find parking and then back across because there was none, and then back because it was the way to New Jersey and it was literally a one car bridge but they allowed it to be two way. We only hit our side mirror once hahaha.
On the way to New Jersey—- tolls are going to be the death of me. It is a whole new world over here and Jeff moves too fast to think and I’m pretty sure we will have at least $100 in tolls fines, on top of having to pay 42$ essentially at one toll booth, and then we got ONE. ONE. Right.
We made it to the city and we were both really surprised and how nice New Jersey was. At least where we were staying. We painfully made our way to the front of our beautiful hotel. The Hyatt Place has a check in desk at the top floor so you can see the whole city. We got our room for the 7th floor and I loaded the cart up and got it to our room and unloaded while Jeff figured out parking across the street. I think I got the better end of the deal but he and Easton snuck away to the pier without me. So who knows. The stinkers.
We spent the evening enjoying the pier and the cool weather and got sandwiches from PotBelly next to our hotel for dinner.
