I don't know what is more American than kayaking out on the river, picking a sandbar, setting up tents, making dinner, playing horseshoes: all while golden and bald eagles fly over head.
75 degrees outside and beautiful.
Although it isn't the fourth of July I usually like to celebrate; at home with 6 am parades. It was a great overnight trip that just oozed independence. DID I MENTION BALD EAGLES?!
We headed out around 5:00 p.m. dumped everything off at the first stop. Packed the Canoe to the rim, loaded the kayaks as much as we could, and set sail.
We paddled about 10 minutes and decided we needed to replenish our stores so we pulled off behind Miller's Market.
{Sugars were definitely replenished}
After enjoying our ice cream we were back on the Little Su.
We enjoyed the hot sun, the freezing water, and the easy floating until we found the best sandbar on the river.
It was really nice to have our own little island to set up camp and enjoy each others company.
Despite being woken up a few times in the night from the cold front that blew in and kayakers at 2:00 am. Then being rudely kicked out of bed by the tent coming un-staked and blowing over us. It was a good time.
We ended it off by loading everything, watching seagulls fish, and cramming into the Yukon.
*Naps and showers all around!*
Happy Independence Day ya'll.
Love,
The Lioness and The Alaskan
